Flights
Playa del Carmen is a short trip from Cancun. Every major airport will have direct flights into Cancun International Airport, which is about 4 hours from Philadelphia and Boston.
Airport Transportation
We’ve partnered with Your Cancun DMC to provide transportation for our guests from the airport to Playa del Carmen. Their site collects all our wedding guest’s flight information and groups you together for the best price. If you’re interested in this option, please see more information here and fill out the necessary details.
Alternatively, you can look into other ride services on your own. Pricing varies by provider and is per car, not per person, so traveling in a group may make things easier.
Getting Around
We’ll provide transportation to all wedding-related activities. Playa del Carmen itself is an extremely walkable city.
There aren’t currently ride share apps in the area, but a lot of taxis the hotels help you organize. They’re very affordable and we recommend getting cash out at the airport in case you end up grabbing one.

Where to Stay
Hotels and Guesthouses
The wedding party will be staying at the Grand Hyatt in Playa del Carmen. We’ve also highlighted two other great properties, but there are a number of other options close by depending on what amenities you are looking for.
*Please note: transportation to and from the wedding venue will be provided from the Grand Hyatt. We recommend booking a hotel within walking distance to make things accessible.*

What to Do
Activities in the area
Playa del Carmen is right in between Cancun and Tulum, both of which offer an abundance of different experiences and excursions. Here's a small sampling of the things you can do in the area to take advantage of the long weekend.
EAT & DRINK
Playa del Carmen’s diverse gastronomy is a destination in itself. Thanks to an influx of travelers worldwide, the culinary scene in Playa del Carmen has evolved from streetside taco stands and casual beach shacks into an amalgam of hip vegan cafes, contemporary seafood bars, and regional restaurants.
Many restaurants are concentrated on the beach and along Playa’s main boulevard Fifth Avenue. It is also recommended that you veer off the busy areas and duck into the side streets – there you’ll discover a world of cheap eats and traditional bites that offer less gimmick and more value.
Marta & Marshall’s personal recommendations:
For Breakfast - L&L (Lara & Luca) cafe. Try the Huevos Rotos or avocado toast!
For Lunch - if you’re up for a bit of a walk, try Birria de la 30 (cash only) or El Fogon.
For Dinner - we love La Cueva Del Chango (the chicken stuffed with poblano is a must), Trujillos, Axiote, La Perla Pixan Cuisine, Porfirios, Ilios or Nicoletta.
PLAY
Playa del Carmen is one of the most unique and thrilling destinations for travelers who want to get out and explore. Most activities revolve around Playa del Carmen's renowned white sand beaches, but you can also plan half-day or full-day snorkeling tours in the crystal clear waters, go scuba diving to the depths of the Caribbean Sea or book a variety of fun watersport rentals including parasailing, jet skis, go sailing or paddleboarding.
EXPLORE
La Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, is the main attraction of Playa del Carmen. It’s a five mile long shopping street with stores, cafes, restaurants, and little stalls. You really must visit Fifth Avenue when you travel to Playa del Carmen.
On a tour of Rio Secreto, you’ll explore the underground caves and also learn about Mayan history in the region. Rio Secreto is a 12km series of caves carved out by a subterranean river. The colors will blow you away.
Sian Ka’an is a protected biosphere reserve located along Mexico’s Caribbean coast you can visit for a day trip from Playa del Carmen.
Quintana Roo is home to some of the earliest and largest Mayan ruins. There are many Mayan ruins near Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and more. Quintana Roo is known as the gateway to the Mayan world.
